About Us

Hello and welcome to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)!   Thank you for visiting our webpage. We are excited that you took this chance to find out more about us.

We are a Christ-centered church filled with wonderful people who love the Lord and others.  We strive to serve God and the community in all that we do.  Our mission is "To Make More and Better Followers of Jesus."

When you come to FCC you will experience a friendly, caring environment being warmly welcomed by our pastor and church  members.  Our church services revolve around the reading and teaching of God's Word, the celebration and remembrance of the Lord's Table (Communion), songs of worship, and prayer.  We encourage anyone who is interested or moved to come worship with us as we honor and glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  FCC (First Christian Church) has a long, rich history in Ionia dating back to the 1860's.  From being visited by former president James Garfield, to the installation of the beautiful Tiffany-style stained glass windows, to our original Tracker Organ, FCC is a great place to come to worship.  We are located very close to downtown Ionia, north of the Ionia Community Library.  Our tall white steeple and church sign featuring a cross and the Disciples of Christ symbol of the chalice will greet you as you drive by on Washington street.

Pastor Kevin Kinsinger Biography

Kevin earned his MBA from Lake Superior State University in 1992 after serving in the U.S. Navy for six years as a nuclear power plant operator on the USS Louisville fast attack submarine. He applied his leadership and management skills for over 20 years in the secular world. Kevin has had progressive leadership and management responsibilities up to and including plant manager for a major automotive supplier to the Big Three.

Kevin completed his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Ministries from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary in 2012. He was honored to receive the Nikolai Wiens Pastoral Award at graduation and was ordained in May 2012. Kevin has used his educational and life experiences in serving the people of South Sudan in both ministering to their spiritual needs and providing leadership for a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based international non-governmental organization (NGO).

Serving in foreign missions was never an anticipated area of ministry when Kevin was in seminary; however, the Lord clearly opened Pastor Kevin’s heart and eyes to the vast need in South Sudan and he spent over eight months between April 2014 and May 2016 in South Sudan. Pastor Kevin and his wife Kay Ann were blessed to spend Christmas 2015 and New Years 2016 with the beautiful people of Werkok, South Sudan. In 2017 the Lord led Pastor Kevin and Kay Ann to First Christian Church of Ionia, Michigan where Kevin was called to the pastorate in October. They now serve the beautiful people of Ionia, Michigan.

Pastor Kevin and Kay Ann have a heart for obedience to the Lord. They dedicated their lives to the Lord in 2001 and have found that living in obedience, though not always easy, itself is a rich reward.
